After the eye-drops,
The waiting, Time, the magazine
Held in place a dozen inches
From my eyes; then the first
Blurring . . . .
Two women talk
In muted voices; the words
Blurring, and I am left between
Their fierce tea-making
And a magazine’s fierce wars . . . .
Daniel James Sundahl is Professor in English and American Studies at Hillsdale College where he has taught for thirty years.
