Even Men

Thomas Griffin

She hasn’t called
yet I am here
hanging fire.

Swollen purple tips of lilac
spear the chilly spring morning
with their crooked shafts—

things we cannot say
with the solemnity of word
after word—

please don’t make me ask
make love with me?

Thomas Griffin’s poetry has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize, recognized with an Academy of American Poets Prize, and continues to be published widely in journals, magazines, reviews, and anthologies. His most recent poetry collection is All That Once Was You.
